Blogging is something I\u2019ve thought about doing for a while and I knew I wanted to start a blog that is different<\/strong> to every other blog out there. But the problem is, will anyone find it interesting and what’s the point?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When blogging first came around, it seemed to be an online diary, describing monotonous things we do everyday. Like, \u201ctoday I woke up a bit late, watched TV, thought about tidying up last night\u2019s mess but decided to check social media instead\u201d. (Which is totally not what I\u2019m doing right now\u2026) Who wants to read that?<\/p>\n

It is and it isn\u2019t a diary. The beauty of blogging is that it can be about whatever you want<\/strong> it to be about.<\/p>\n

What I thought of was \u2018what do I like?\u2019 and \u2018what do I know?\u2019\u2026<\/h3>\n

I like fashion. I like the art and business behind fashion. I like making my own clothes. I like luxury pieces. More importantly, I like luxury pieces and hunting them down for the best price.<\/strong> And I know how to do it. So why not share that?<\/p>\n

So, why now?<\/strong> Here\u2019s why have I finally decided to start a blog and maybe why you should too:<\/h3>\n

  1. \n

    Turn a hobby into productivity<\/h3>\n

    I am fantastic at shopping. It might not be something to be proud of\u2026 but I\u2019ve been told I\u2019m good at it ;). So, by starting this blog, at least I can turn what is a bit of an addiction into something productive that has a purpose<\/strong> other than just filling out some wardrobes.<\/li>\n

    It sets a goal<\/h3>\n

    Having a blog gives you a project to set your mind to<\/strong>. As much as I hated the pressure at university, I loved researching a topic and writing an essay. It gives you a sense of pride and achievement when\u00a0you see your work come together at the end of a project and blogging has re-ignited my motivation I had back at uni.<\/li>\n

    Make friends and build a community<\/h3>\n

    It was daunting when I published my first ever post. But, what I quickly found was that there were a lot of bloggers I\u2019ve met through Twitter and Facebook conversations that are really supportive. You start building a rapport and becoming online friends<\/strong> with others who have similar interests to you. I\u2019d like to mention two of these bloggers whose blogs I love:\u00a0loubisandleggings.com<\/a> and\u00a0esejanta.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n

    Learn new skills and put it into practice<\/h3>\n

    Especially if you\u2019re self-hosting a website, you\u2019ll gain digital acumen that can be useful outside of blogging<\/strong>. You\u2019ll also get to put this into practice with your blog. Working in social media, I have learnt a few things from my job that come in handy promoting my blog. This leads to my next point:<\/li>\n

    It looks great to employers<\/h3>\n

    In an online world, everything we do online matters<\/strong>. Whether or not you\u2019re actively looking for a job, a blog could open up new opportunities<\/strong> for you.Having an online presence is a valuable thing when it comes to your career – whatever area that may be. You can showcase your written communication skills and give an insight into your personality before you\u2019ve even got to an interview stage.<\/p>\n

    Employers often hire someone after seeing something positive on a candidate’s social media platform because \u2018the employer got a\u00a0good feel for the candidate\u2019s personality<\/a>\u2019 and their \u2018profile showed that the job seeker is\u00a0creative, well-rounded, or has great communication skills<\/a>\u2019. Here are some fun stats:<\/p>\n

    32% of recruiters<\/strong>\u00a0have found material online that\u2019s contributed to the decision to hire someone, yet 41%<\/strong> of companies say a lack of online information about a job candidate makes them less likely to even consider that person<\/strong> for an interview

    Inspire and help your readers<\/h3>\n

    If you have a lot experience in something, share what you know<\/strong> – it could help someone out<\/li>\n

    Make a bit of money<\/h3>\n

    Lastly, if you do it right, then yes, you can earn some money<\/strong> from your blog. It may not be a lot in the beginning, but it\u2019s nice to get a little return on your hard work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
