Summer to Autumn style

Summer to Autumn style can be tricky. Itβs sometimes warm, sometimes cold. One minute youβre overheating and the next youβre an ice cube.
This is the perfect excuse to carry on wearing summer clothes! Maybe you have a summer playsuit that you love wearing or you just found the cutest dress in the sales and you donβt want to wait βtil next year to wear it?
And youβre anything like me, youβll be clinging onto Summer for as long as possible (Iβm still in denial that itβs Autumn).
So, when youβre about to stuff your summer clothes into the back of the wardrobe, think again.
You just need to adjust the rest of your outfit to the season.

I love this shift dress – it has a bit of a ChloΓ© vibe to it, where the simple shape means you can either dress it up or down. It’s light-weight during the Summer but easy to layer during the Autumn and the neutral colour will look great with any accent colours you choose to put with it!

Hereβs how to take it from this into Autumn:
1. Footwear
Firstly, this is the easiest thing to start with. Change from sandals and espadrilles into some boots. Boots are what really takes an outfit from Summer to Autumn, because: a) obviously boots are more season appropriate for kicking fallen leaves, b) they provide more warmth and protection, and c) they just look autumny. (Proper word being autumnal :))
Dress: Ted Baker* | Belt: Topshop | Boots: Public Desire | Hat: Missguided | Sleeveless coat: Oasis (last year) | Bag: Fendi
2. Accessories
Swap your sunnies for a warm hat and change the thin belt for a chunkier belt. I went a corset-style, lace-up belt in dark grey to give a nice contrast to the nude colour. Β
You could always wear tights with but Iβm not ready for that, so over-the-knee boots keep your legs covered and warm, whilst looking chic.
3. Layer up
Thin layers are great for when the weatherβs temperamental. You can add or remove whenever you get too hot or cold.
In the Autumn, a sleeveless coat is a must for me – it keeps your core body warm, but allows you more freedom and breeziness without sleeves. Plus – more room for LAYERS! Whether itβs a chunky-arse knit sweater or sheer long-sleeve shirt.
4. Textures
Swap your light-cotton cardis for heavier woolen pieces and bring in tweeds and velvets. Sure enough, embroidery and embellishment will a big thing again this Autumn-Winter, so look to Gucci for some inspiration!

Hey, look! A CAT!
5. Introduce seasonal colours
If youβve gone for a light-coloured summery dress, like this pinky-nude Ted Baker dress, bring in warm, berry and jewel tones to make your dress fit in with the season. I absolutely love deep burgundy and plum.
6. Makeup
I love a berry-matte lip in the colder months. βGlastonberryβ by Charlotte Tilbury is just beautiful – the perfect pout for sipping on a pumpkin-spiced latte.

October 2, 2017This is such a good post, and I love your photos! That dress is gorgeous, no wonder you don’t want to give it up just yet!I’ve recently lost quite a bit of weight and the winter clothes I have are all too big, so I definitely need to figure out a way to continue wearing my summer clothes until I have a bit more money to buy some new autumn and winter clothes!

October 2, 2017Ah well the great thing about having larger winter clothes, when it comes to jumpers and sweater dress, oversized is always better and more snuggly – so there’s one good thing about that!
Yeah you should go for it! π just put layers on and you’re good to go xxx

October 3, 2017I’m an autumn adorer, but saying goodbye to my summer wardrobe is a tough business! Layering is indeed key. During autumn the weather can be tricky -one moment the sun is shining the other it’s pouring outside. Love the idea of a sleeveless coat and I also love the plum-colours (AND I’m head-over-heels in love with those boots). You’ve definitely rekindled my autumn wardrobe attitude! π
Love,
Dominique

October 4, 2017It is a tough business! I definitely get why Autumn is most people’s favourite season.. you get to experiment a lot! Glad to have helped π yeah, so pleased I got that sleeveless coat last year; it’s all I’ve been wearing at the moment cos you really can just chuck it on top of a big sweater!
